Federico getting shirty at Swansea

-

NOT many players can have a shirt from the World Cup final alongside a top from their debut against Rotherham, but Swansea’s Federico Fernandez has both.

The £8million defender, who was an unused Argentina substitute in this summer’s World Cup final defeat by Germany, is in line to make his Premier League debut against West Brom today after completing his big-money move from Napoli.

The 25-year-old, a keen admirer of Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, got his first taste of action since the World Cup in the midweek League Cup tie against Rotherham, helping the Swans to a clean sheet and a 1-0 victory at the Liberty.

Fernandez is so grateful for the chance to impress in the Premier League, he has decided to hang his first Swansea shirt next to his World Cup final one at home.

He said: “I have kept my shirt from the Rotherham game because it is my first one. I always like to keep the shirt from the first game I play for each club.

“The shirt from the final of the World Cup I have kept as well, despite the result it was something really special for me.

“They can go next to each other at home.

“Obviously they are very different games, a different style of football. But every game is really important, and that was very important as it was my first.”

Swansea have further boosted their squad after completing the signing of free-agent midfielder Giancarlo Gallifuoco. The 20-year-old was released by Tottenham in the summer after his contract expired.
