CHIEFS AND SARRIES WORRY WASPS
EXETER and Saracens maintained the pressure on Premiership leaders Wasps with hard-fought home wins.
The Chiefs replaced Sarries in second spot after a 36-14 victory over Newcastle at Sandy Park. The bonus-point left them just a point behind Wasps, who are at home to Gloucester this afternoon.
Newcastle led 14-7 but two tries by James Short and one each for Harry Williams and Sam Skinner, plus a penalty try, pulled Exeter clear.
The Chiefs are a point above Saracens, who bounced back from successive defeats but fell a try short of a bonus point in their 29-18 victory over Sale.
Duncan Taylor, Chris Ashton and Nathan Earle scored Sarries’ tries, while fly-half Alex Lozowski kicked 14 points.
Northampton climbed to sixth courtesy of their fifth successive home victory. They beat second-bottom Worcester 24-14 despite falling behind to an early Josh Adams try. Saints bounced back with a try from Teimana Harrison and two by hooker Mike Haywood.
Bristol face Bath in today’s other game.
