Ajose gives Robins hope
SWINDON boosted their survival hopes and dented FLEETWOOD’S automatic promotion aspirations with a surprise 1-0 win at Highbury.
Nicky Ajose scored the decisive goal with nine minutes remaining after he ran on to a long ball from Charlie Colkett to get on the wrong side of Ashley Eastham before slotting a low finish beneath goalkeeper Alex Cairns.
The Robins remain in the relegation places but are now just three points from safety. Third-placed Fleetwood are now seven points adrift of BOLTON who drew 0-0 with CHESTERFIELD, who had Jon Nolan sent off in injury time. BRADFORD benefited as they won 1-0 at home against WALSALL, courtesy of a 58th-minute strike from Billy Clarke (right).
SCUNTHORPE’S slump continued and they are now back down to fifth after losing 3-1 at MILLWALL.
Goals from Shaun Williams, from the penalty spot, Shane Ferguson and Aiden O’Brien kept the Lions in the race for the play-offs. Matt Crooks headed a consolation for the Iron.
SOUTHEND are the side above Millwall in sixth after they overcame OLDHAM 3-0 at Roots Hall. Ryan Leonard was sent off after 70 minutes but Southend then bagged three through Nile Ranger, Theo Robinson and an Anthony Wordsworth penalty.
Billy Bodin hit a brace, one a penalty, as BRISTOL ROVERS beat SHREWSBURY, who had Ryan Yates sent off, 2-0.
