MARQUEZ IS PUSHED TO MAXIMUM
MARC MARQUEZ is on course to extend his five-point lead in the MotoGP title stakes as he starts his Repsol Honda from pole position in this afternoon’s Czech Republic round at Brno.
Marquez left it late to eclipse his team-mate Dani Pedrosa and then was under pressure to hold off Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi, but there was little in it.
Despite a scary moment early on, he fired in a stunning lap in 1min 54.981secs, and he reflected: “I pushed at the maximum. Now it will be an interesting race.”
Elsewhere, Jake Dixon beat the Thruxton lap record as he scorched to his maiden pole ahead of this afternoon’s seventh round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.
Riding the RAF Kawasaki, Dixon powered in a time of 1min 14.052secs, to head off the threat of former champion Josh Brookes.
