Tuesday 12 Doctor Foster 9pm, BBC One
WHAT are you doing? Where are you going? Don’t go up those stairs! No, wait, don’t go into their bedroom! Don’t sit on the bed! Get out of there! Don’t you dare open that bedside drawer…. don’t…Don’t look in there! Wait a minute, what’s…Don’t touch that! Don’t take that out! What the hell are you doing…! These, more or less, were my notes last week, during the first episode of this second series of Mike Bartlett’s batty infidelity drama, as the loosely-hinged Gemma Foster (Suranne Jones) went sneaking around the home of her horrendous ex-husband Simon (Bertie Carvel) and his new wife. But fans will know Gemma’s bad behaviour can get much, much worse. And so it proves tonight. Now she knows Simon is planning to take their son Tom away, and then drive her out of the village like a witch, Gemma is sashaying onto the warpath, snooping around the town after dark, indulging in a bit of terrifying blackmail, and fuelling herself mostly on wine … Be afraid.
