Saturday Black Lake 9pm, BBC Four

Sunday Herald Life - - TV & RADIO -

EXCITING news for members of BBC Four’s Saturday Night Subtitles Posse: after a long wait, the sixth series of Spiral is set to begin on French TV next weekend. Still no news of when it will land here, but it can’t be much longer. Surely? In the meantime, this eight-part series from Sweden departs slightly from the usual crime beat, moving closer to horror movie. A group of good-looking young friends have travelled to a remote, abandoned ski lodge. The resort has been derelict for 20 years, and one of them has plans to buy it and do it up. But there are bad vibes resonating around the place, possibly to do with the mass murder that took place there two decades before… The don’t-go-in-the-cellar clichés come thick and fast, and the body count is surprisingly small. But it’s painless enough, with great snowy scenery, enough intrigue, and a likeable performance from Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, recognisable from the last series of The Bridge, as the possibly semi-psychic lead.
