Thursday 14 Best Album Of The Year: The Mercury Prize Live 9pm, BBC Four
IT’S prestigious music gong time again, and the tireless Lauren Laverne is on hand at the Hammersmith Apollo in London to present live coverage of the ceremony. Excitedly dusting off space on their mantelpiece for what we now officially have to call The Hyundai Mercury Prize this year are Game Of Thrones’ Ed Sheeran for his album ÷; alt-j for Relaxer; Blossoms with their self-titled debut; Glass Animals for How to Be A Human Being; J Hus for Common Sense; Kate Tempest for Let Them Eat Chaos; Loyle Carner for Yesterday’s Gone; Sampha for Process; Stormzy for Gang Signs & Prayer; The Big Moon for Love in the 4th Dimension; The xx for I See You; and Dinosaur (who, I’ve just discovered when I googled them to check, are definitely not to be confused with Dinosaur Jr) for Together As One. Some of them will be performing as the coverage unfolds. Stay tuned for Indie Classics At The BBC (10.15pm), with familiar footage of Joy Division, The Cocteau Twins, The Smiths, Depeche Mode and more.
