KELBURNE Bromac claimed an important 3-2 win against probably their most dangerous rivals for the men’s First Division title, Grove Menzieshill, when they returned to domestic action after their good showing in the EuroHockey League last weekend. Hamish Galt cancelled out Nick Finlayson’s opener for the Paisley side but they led 3-1 at half time after Jonny Christie’s double and always looked like they would collect all three points despite a penalty strike from Ciaran Crawford.

Western Wildcats recorded their first win away at Gordonians. Two penalty corner goals by Adam Mackenzie gave Western a comfortable half-time lead and he completed his hat-trick soon after the interval. Ross Clunie added a fourth after Gordonians had pulled one back. A late corner by the Aberdeen side made the scoreline a more respectable 4-2.

Hillhead also notched their first win, beating early leaders Watsonians, who had won their first three games, 7-6. Callum Duke got a hattrick for Hillhead, with their other goals coming from Craig Paterson, Chris Wilson, Euan Cochrane and Andrew Hutton.

Grange’s 7-2 win over Clydesdale keeps them in touch two points behind the leaders.

In the women’s First Division, Milne Craig Clydesdale Western remain top after a 1-0 win over Edinburgh University. Jenny Eadie scored the only goal from a second-half penalty corner. A late surge by Edinburgh gained them a penalty corner which might have given them a point but for an excellent save by Mairi Fletcher.
