NEWGlasgow Rocks coach Tony Garbelotto is set to make Great Britain internatio­nal Ali Fraser his No 1 signing target. The Scot, who spent last season playing for German side Ehingen, had a brief spell at the Emirates Arena before injury forced his departure. “He competed against me in Germany and I thought ‘he’s a warrior’,” Garbelotto said. “He could really dominate in the BBL and he’d be a great addition.”

DEEHayward was on song as Scotland ended their summer tour on a winning note by beating Fo Guang Taiwan 80-67 at the Internatio­nal Women’s Tournament in Kuala Lumpur. LEWISJohns­tone, a 17-year-old boxer from Airdrie, has been selected as Scotland’s flagbearer for the Commonweal­th Youth Games in the Bahamas next month. Johnstone, a European Junior medallist in 2015 and 2016, was chosen following a vote by team-mates,

“This is definitely the proudest moment of my sporting career and it is showing that my hard work and training is paying off,” he said.

WESTLothia­n’s Paul Di Resta banished his Budapest jinx in style after scoring a sensationa­l victory from 13th place on the grid in round five of the DTM Championsh­ip.

A first-lap incident led the 2010 champion – who had never finished higher than 13th in Hungary – to gamble on an early pit stop, and it paid off when he found himself in front after all the leaders pitted following a safety car and a restart.

The Williams Formula One reserve driver held off Timo Glock, crossing the line 1.393secs clear and his 25 points moved him up to ninth in the overall standings ahead of this afternoon’s round six.
