Whole lot of spin from all sides
GENERAL ELECTION ‘17 POLITICIANS STEP UP FIGHT AS WE MAKE SPECIAL PLEA TO YOUNG VOTERS
The country’s politicians attempted to bowl over voters with another round of desperately cheesy photo opportunities on the campaign trail yesterday. Nicola Sturgeon attempted to secure the grey vote for her party by announcing election pledges aimed at older people ahead of the SNP’s manifesto launch on Tuesday. But the First Minister may have lost a vote or two among bowlers after making the mistake of wearing heeled boots on the green at Liberton Bowling Club in Edinburgh.
Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dudgale was hoping for green shoots of recovery for her party when she visited a tree and hedge nursery in Gladsmuir, East Lothian.
The Lib Dems made a pitch for green votes when Scottish campaign chairman Alex Cole-Hamilton campaigned against the sell-off of the Green Investment Bank in Edinburgh.
Meanwhile, party grandee Sir Vince Cable – who lost his seat at the last election – offered voters a nightmarish vision of former Ukip leader Nigel Farage’s face superimposed over that of Prime Minister Theresa May face on their latest billboard poster.
He warned that the Tories had “adopted wholesale” the policies of Ukip on Brexit – and probably ended up voters giving a few sleepless nights in the process. It also led to some on social media branding it “trans-phobic”
Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson unveiled a new campaign poster with the message “Enough!” in Edinburgh.
Despite more than two weeks of campaigning and debates still remaining on the calendar, most voters probably agree by this stage.
