Scotland women at war
middle of a major stand-off with the SFA a month ahead of t he i r first-ever appearance at a major finals.
They have withdrawn all co- operation, other than playing, and are fighting for parity with Gordon Strachan’s men’s team when it comes to rewards.
With talks deadlocked, the scheduled announcement of the Euro 2017 squad on Tuesday has now been forced back by a week.
Since they started their action, other than playing in their recent win over Romania and a defeat to Sweden, the squad has:
refused all media interviews or photography.
refused co- operation with the SFA’s in- house media or sponsors.
refused official Euros broadcaster Channel 4’s request for four players to participate in filming for their opening credit.
refused to allow UEFAmandated pictures and presentations to celebrate the 100-cap mark being hit by Jane Ross and Jen Beattie.
Their player reps, led by captain Gemma Fay, drafted in Fraser Wishart of PFA Scotland two months ago in a bid to end their stalemate with SFA chief executive Stewart Regan.
But he has also been instructed to make no comment on their stance.
It’s understood some progress has been made towards a middle ground – but not enough. Sources within the camp claim the dispute is less about money and more about respect.
