Mo Farah pipped at post in last race

-

Sir Mo Farah missed out on the gold medal in his final track race last night.

Farah, 34, was among the leading group for much of a thrilling 5000 metres final at the World Athletics Championships in London.

But Ethiopian Muktar Edris pulled away on the final lap.

Farah bravely chased Edris up the home straight and, in a thrilling f inale, appeared to have found a possible route up the inside.

But it wasn’t to be as he just couldn’t keep pace with Edris’s sprint.

The Ethiopian won gold by several metres while Farah hung on bravely for the silver medal.

The hard- fought race had the London Stadium rocking – with the majority of the crowd desperate for a Farah win.

Four-time Olympic gold medallist Farah held off US athlete Paul Chelimo, who took bronze.

Fellow Team GB member Andrew Butchart finished in eighth place.

Farah, who won six world championship gold medals in his glittering career, hugged tearful family members in the crowd straight after the race.

He then went on a warm- down lap, posing for selfies with fans and signing autographs.

Edris won with a time of 13:32.79. Farah finished in 13:33.22, claiming a second world silver medal to add to his 10,000m gong in 2011.

The race was Farah’s last major track appearance before retirement later this month.
