I turn up heat over Gas Board demand
Margaret Brown did a double take when a letter arrived from the gas board telling her she was in arrears.
She quickly realised the demand wasn’t from Scottish Gas – it was from another firm called The Gas Board – and they’d charged her £100 for boiler cover.
The company claimed she’d agreed to a direct debit but this was news to Margaret, 77. She said: “This dispensing assistant, said: “The price was prohibitive so we decided we had no option but to go with the Bahia.”
She and Jim, a ornamental blacksmith, arrived in the resort was the first I’d heard. I have no recollection of speaking to them.”
Margaret’s bank stopped the direct debit then The Gas Board threatened debt collectors.
Margaret, of Linwood, Renfrewshire, said: “I want to warn others.”
The good news is Bank of Scotland were able to claw back Margaret’s cash.
The Gas Board, based in Manchester, claimed Margaret had agreed over the phone.
They added: “We offer a 14-day cancellation period and in certain circumstances we would always let customers cancel.
“The Gas Board are a registered limited company.
“I f Scott ish Gas refer to themselves as the gas board, they have caused the confusion.”
