Jig won’t pull his support for Kirk

-

Lee McCulloch lauched a staunch defence of twin defensive stalwarts Kirk Broadfoot and Gordon Greer despite the pair imploding in defeat to Hearts.

The Rugby Park boss claims he didn’t see an apparent hair pul l ing incident which saw Broadfoot red carded and refused to slam Greer for his role in gifting the Jambos the game’s only goal.

He said: “I didn’t see the red card incident. I saw the goal back but specifically asked not to see the incident. I also haven’t spoken to Kirk.

“I don’t know what’s happened with Kirk so I don’t think it’s right to comment on it but there were a few strange decisions today.

“The centre-halves were too far apart at their goal and one should have been over covering but we sold ourselves too easily. I thought we defended well after that when we went to a back three.

“Both Gordon and Kirk, when he was on the pitch, did okay. It was only at the goal we had the problem, that cost us the game.

“I don’t agree the sending off ended the momentum for us, we lacked that final ball and that bit of quality. We were just unlucky not to get that rub of the green.”

Broadfoot also believes his team deserved better and could have won the game.

He said: “It’s disappointing, we conceded after five minutes and there was miscommunication between the two centre-halves. It was a bad goal to lose and we find ourselves behind when I’ve been talking all week about how we need to start the game well.

“The positives were that after that, we looked a threat. We should have scored through Rory McKenzie, it would have been a much different last 20 minutes.

“The signs are there that we’re improving week by week.”
