Grand gesture shuts them up

Sunday Mail (UK) - - News -

One in five grandparents hate their grandchild’s name, according to Mumsnet and Gransnet.

I have a message to those grandparents: Suck it up in silence. It’s hard enough choosing the right baby name without dealing with grandparental disapproval. I must point the finger of accusation at my own mother. Yes, she who named a baby “Lesley” and hallmarked her a child of the 70s.

By baby number three, we stopped discussing potential names as mum couldn’t resist giving her views. Charlotte was out as it reminded her of an old classmate with a dirty nose. Victoria made her think of hospitals.

We learned a clever trick: Use the grandparent’s moniker as a middle name. They’re so overwhelmed, they stop commenting.
