My pupils think poetry contest is best bar none

the Primary 5 class are taking their entries very seriously.

Teacher Jane Cowan said: “The poetry competition is perfect for us. It’s a huge deal for the children to be involved.

“I knew they would be desperate to enter it.”

The nine and 10-year- olds had preparatory lessons to discuss different poets and writing techniques before putting pen to wrapper. Jane added: “The children already write poetry in class. Trying to shorten their words to fill a smal l space l ike the Tunnock’s wrapper was an ideal exercise.

“And eating a caramel wafer at the same time was the best thing ever.” For more information about our Tunnock’s competition, see dailyrecord.co. uk/Tunnocks Poetry. Closing date is October 29.
