Liam Cos­grave, who was the Ir­ish taoiseach from 1973 to 1977, was laid to rest yes­ter­day.

Dur­ing a 40-year po­lit­i­cal ca­reer, he was part of Fine Gael gov­ern­ments who over­saw Ire­land be­com­ing a repub­lic in 1949 and join­ing the UN in 1955.

Cur­rent taoiseach Leo Va ra d k a r and his pre­de­ces­sors Enda Kenny and Ber­tie Ah­ern were among those who at­tended the fu­neral mass in Dublin.
