Outrage at MPs’ £1.3m sprinklers

Sunday Mail (UK) - - News -

The upcoming £ 4billion refurbishment of Westminster includes a sprinkler system costing £1.3million, while the Tories refuse cash to make tower blocks like Grenfell safe.

A woman who lost her home in the blaze said she was disgusted to learn MPs had allocated cash to keep themselves safe while others are in danger.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said: “The life of a tower block resident is worth just as much as the life of an MP or peer.”

Helen Gebremeskel, who lived in Grenfell for 20 years, said: “I am disgusted the government can retro-fit sprinklers at Westminster but won’t fund councils to [do it] in social housing.”
