Trib­ute to God­fa­ther of Ital­ian cui­sine

View­ers have thanked BBC show Sat­ur­day Kitchen for a touch­ing trib­ute to celebrity chef An­to­nio Car­luc­cio.

The Ital­ian restau­ra­teur died aged 80 af­ter a fall at his home on Wed­nes­day.

He first ap­peared on the pro­gramme when it came to screens in 2006, re­cently tak ing on a st int a s pre­sen­ter, with close friends Gen­naro Con­taldo and Jamie Oliver.

Ded­i­cat­ing Sat­ur­day’s show to the late cook, pre­sen­ter Matt Teb­butt paid trib­ute to the “god­fa­ther of Ita l ian gas­tron­omy,” in­tro­duc­ing a clip from Two Greedy Ital­ians.

Fan Ste­fano Hatf ield re­sponded on Twit­ter: “Shed a tear there at that beau­ti­ful trib­ute to the late, great An­to­nio Car­luc­cio, a lovely man with a twinkly eye who I was priv­i­leged to meet a few times and learn from.”

Oliver paid trib­ute to Car­luc­cio in an In­sta­gram post, say­ing: “He was my first Lon­don boss 25 years ago.

“He w a s such a charis­matic charm­ing don of all things Ital­ian! Al­ways hang­ing out the front door of the restau­rant with a big fat cigar [and] a glass of some­thing splen­did.”
