As a sol­dier in the Blac Black Watch, Sergeant John Clarke saw fierce front front­line ac­tion and servi ser­vice in many places, start start­ing with Tu­nisia and Al­ger Al­ge­ria in north Africa in 1941943. Jo­hJohn, now 93, was also in­volv in­volved in all phases of the difd­if­fi­cult bat­tle at Monte Cassino, Italy, in 1944 aand later took part in guer­guer­rilla-style war­fare agains against ELAS com­mu­nist fighter fighters in Greece. He wasw present as ad­di­tio ad­di­tional se­cu­rity dur­ing an at­temp­tatte on Win­ston Church Churchill’s life in Athens in De­cemb De­cem­ber 1944 and served iin Pales­tine with the 6th AAir­borne Di­vi­sion. In 2002004, John was awarded an MBE for his many yearsye of work with var­i­ous vet­er­ans’v groups.
