A St An­drews Univer­sity pro­fes­sor – who pre­dicted the elec­tion of Don­ald Trump – is the first Brit to win a pres­ti­gious in­ter­na­tional prize for his con­tri­bu­tion to psy­chol­ogy.

So­cia l psy­cholog i st Pro­fes­sor Stephen Re­icher is recog­nised for his work on crowd be­hav­iour, po­lit­i­cal rhetoric and mass so­cial inf lu­ence, sol­i­dar­ity and so­cial co­he­sion.

He is also an ex­pert on i n t e r g r oup ha t r e d , con­form­ity and obe­di­ence, and the psy­chol­ogy of tyranny.

His re­cent study of au­thor­i­tar­ian lead­er­ship re­sulted in him suc­cess­fully fore­cast­ing the elec­tion of Pres­i­dent Trump.

Now Prof Rei c h e r, Ward­law Pro­fes­sor in the School of Psy­chol­ogy and Neu­ro­science at St An­drews, has been awarded the 2018 Harold Lass­well Award by the In­ter­na­tional S o c iet y of Pol i t ic a l Psy­chol­ogy.
