Salt dangers in lunchtime BLT sandwich
A BLT sandwich with crisps for lunch exceeds an adult’s daily recommended salt intake in just one meal.
Trading standards made the warning after testing midday meals that often display no nutritional data.
Of 10 samples, eight were found to have high levels of salt which can cause high blood pressure.
The bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich with crisps was worst at seven grams. Health guidelines say adults should eat no more than 6g of salt a day.
Staffordshire trading standards said: “We need to think about salt intake as people eat too much.”
