Motherhood is so often a tough sob

-

Arriving early for a meeting in London, I popped into a coffee shop to kill time.

As I sat down, I heard a sobbing sound and looked round to see a woman in her early thirties with a newborn baby asleep in a pram.

Tears rolling down her face, she said into her phone: “It’s taking more than I can give… I don’t know how to make it better… I feel defeated, broken.”

It took me right back to my early days as a new mum. Nothing can prepare you for the exhaustion and emotion.

So I hope she’s OK. If she’s reading this, I want her to know charities like Tommy’s (tommys.org) can help new mums get back on track.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mums out there. After jumping through so many hoops (IVF and adoption) to join your ranks, I have to admit it’s the best job in the world. And I expect to get spoilt rotten today, because, dare I say, I’m worth it. ELITIST WORLD
