No seatbelts on and plates fake

POLICE who stopped a car on the school run found a boy of 15 driving his four-year-old sister – with their dad in the passenger seat.

None of them had seatbelts on and the vehicle had false plates.

The boy, who cannot be named, was reported for driving without a licence and insurance. The father was reported for allowing it.

Their Ford Focus was pulled over during a road safety operation near Mill Hill Academy primary school in Stoke on Friday morning.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “It was part of a national campaign targeting drivers not using seatbelts. It particularly focused on children incorrectly restrained as they were being taken to this school. During this operation a Focus was stopped as officers could see that no occupant – the driver, a young girl and a man – had seatbelts on.

“It was established the driver was only 15 years old, the adult was his father and the young girl his sister. The car also had false number plates.”

Officers regularly conduct safety operations near the academy. Two actions last year caught more than 40 people not strapped in.

School head Michaela Moore said: “We have a close working relationship with the local PCSO team and they often come in to present road safety workshops to our key stage one and two pupils.

“We welcome the action that the police have taken in this case because the safety of our pupils is of the utmost importance.”
