Dreadful state of our canals is disgusting
You’d think the bins had gone into lockdown with all the rubbish lying around. So I’ve been out litter-picking at my lovely local towpath with the kids this week for the Canal and River Trust’s Plastics Challenge.
It’s a sad state that half a million pieces of plastic flow from our waterways into the ocean every year, from pop bottles and crisp bags to traffic cones.
The trust’s volunteers were spending 10,000 hours a month before lockdown, removing litter from waterways, meaning there is now a big ugly backlog. So please help if you can. Even better, bin your burger wrappers in the first place.
