Walk

-

Breathtaking views of the Jurassic coast and unique rock formations await you on this circular pub walk. Difficulty: Easy Length: 1-2 hours / 3.5 miles

From the car park, walk down the road past the Bankes Arms pub and turn left by the public toilets on to the path signed for Old Harry. Look out for rectangular earthworks in the wood near Old Harry – the remains of fields used by Celtic farmers.

From Old Harry follow the coast path up a gentle rise, keeping well back from the sheer cliff edge. Old Harry, and the remains of Old Harry’s wife, have been carved by the action of the waves. Together they form one of Dorset’s Chelmsford and Staffordshire (August 19-20)

When Jay-Z headlined Glastonbury in 2008, the booking caused headlines – and outrage from Noel Gallagher. But having the rapper top the bill at V feels like a natural fit. Now in its 22nd year, it has evolved from a Britpop weekend into Britain’s most unashamedly pop festival, featuring chart toppers on alternate days at Hylands Park, Essex, and Weston Park, Staffordshire. Also on stage will be Ellie Goulding, Emeli Sande and Jason Derulo, while headlining on the other day is Pink. She is supported by Craig David, Jess Glynne, James Arthur, Madness and George Ezra, while you can find Rudimental, Steve Aoki and Annie Mac flying the dance flag on the other stages.

Queen Anne opens with a bawdy song, chorus dancing, a fake pregnancy suit and nipple tweaking. For a moment you wonder if you’re in the right theatre for the Royal Shakespeare Company. You are – this is the age that created satire, after all. The play explores the monarch’s achingly close relationship with “toxic friend”, the vicious and darkly ambitious Countess of Marlborough (Romola Garai). Anne (Emma Cunniffe) meanwhile, is so meek and adoring it’s easy to miss the steely resolve within – as the Countess does. Both actresses are outstanding. Anne was popular and successful during her 12-year reign but she faced startlingly modern problems, which have the audience laughing along. Whether it’s the politics or the deeply personal story of her complex female friendships, this subtly capable queen will capture your heart. OCTAVIA LILLYWHITE most famous landmarks. Savour the fine views across Poole Bay to Bournemouth, Hengistbury Head and the Isle of Wight.

At the first gate, keep to the clifftop path. Look back to enjoy a fine view of the Pinnacle stack. You may see peregrine falcons circling high above.

Go through a farm gate and head straight on along Ballard Down.

Just before the stone bench marked ‘Rest and be thankful’, where the main paths cross, turn right down the hill towards Studland.

Follow the road down through the Glebeland estate.

Go straight on at the crossroads,

following the sign for the church. At the end of the lane, go through the gate into the churchyard. Pass the church on your right then turn immediately right and follow the footpath back to your starting point. Tate Modern, London (Till October 22)
