Protect all of us... not just MPs’

Sunday Mirror - - FRONT PAGE -

There has never been a fatality in a UK building fitted with sprinklers.

So it is only right that Parliament should include them in their fire safety refurbishment plans. But if sprinklers are right for MPs then they must be right for the residents of tower blocks in the wake of the Grenfell tragedy.

This is where politicians look both ways and show two faces. They are happy to spend £1.3million of taxpayers’ money to keep themselves safe.

But when it comes to local authorities who want to do the same for those in their tower blocks they are refused the cash.

Two-faced politicians are masters of double standards and they disgust us as they will revolt all fair-minded people.

Yes, we are pointing the finger at you, housing minister Alok Sharma, who turned down Nottingham’s plea for sprinklers in 13 towers.

And you, Communities Secretary Sajid Javid, who failed four times to say he would retrofit sprinklers in blocks at risk.

No life is worth more than another. What will save the hide of an MP must be made available to everyone in danger.

We know it will cost. But better to cost money than lives. Because if another Grenfell happened our disgust would turn to rage and fury.
