JustGiving’s £25k profit over Grenfell

- BY ALAN SELBY

CHARITY fundraising site JustGiving earned £25,000 in fees from a single appeal to help survivors of the Grenfell Tower inferno.

It took five per cent of the £400,000 raised by a wellwisher, it has emerged.

Now MPs have criticised JustGiving and say it ought to waive the fee, which it takes from gift aid – a tax refund on each donation.

Meg Hillier, Public Accounts Committee chair, said: “This is a very high percentage fee and the cost of doing this is much less than £25,000.”

MP Mary Robinson said “The beneficiary of the gift aid reclaimed should be the relevant charity.”

JustGiving said: “By leaving time-consuming, costly stuff to us, charities spend more time, energy and money on doing good.”
