‘VAR a big problem’
The United chief is already focusing on his two full-back positions, currently occupied by Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, who both turn 33 this summer.
Luke Shaw (left, top) is also in the firing line. Italian star Matteo Darmian and versatile Dutchman Daley Blind will both be on their way through the exit door after this season ends. At the heart of defence, centre backs Victor Lindelof (left, middle), Chris Smalling and the injury-prone Phil Jones are under the microscope, with only Ivory Coast star Eric Bailly certain of his position.
In midfield, Marouane Fellaini (left, bottom), Ander Herrera and Juan Mata will be in the spotlight but £89m Paul Pogba will be given another season to produce the goods after two mediocre campaigns since his big-money return from Juventus.
The Glazer family, United’s American owners, are likely to sanction another £150m spree by Mourinho.
But the Portuguese coach will have to generate his own funds if he wants any more spending money.
Lukaku believes United can’t dwell on their Sevilla shocker and he’s determined to ensure a winning end to the season by delivering the kind of display he gave against Liverpool.
Lukaku said: “I agree with that. I am a player who really thrives on highintensity football.
“That is something which is best for me as I’m powerful and really fast — and it is something that can help the team.
“It is something I want to keep going. I know that we are going to have more opportunities, and I will get more opportunities I can put my team-mates in better positions as well.
“I want my team-mates to win. I am really disappointed that we didn’t beat Sevilla because we dream of winning trophies like the Champions League — but you have to move on.”
For some, that will be easier said than done.
