So let Battle commence! 1066 relived
THE legendary Battle of Hastings is being commemorated this weekend in a two-day event watched by thousands of spectators.
More than 600 soldiers yesterday recreated the decisive showdown where Saxons were defeated by invading Normans on October 14, 1066.
The event, which continues today on the 952nd anniversary, has been organised by English Heritage at Battle Abbey in East Sussex – the site of the bloody conflict.
Visitors can visit camps to see what life was like for the armies of Harold and William and watch falconry and archery.
Events manager Diane Evans said: “It is reliving the most important battle in English history.”
