Freddie bags 15 of Bath’s 20 points... but his late cock-up costs them massive win

Sunday Mirror - - PUZZLES - From ALEX SPINK at the Rec

FREDDIE BURNS kissed goodbye to Bath’s chances of European glory with a calamitous blunder.

In a passage of play, which will haunt the club for a long time to come, the England international butchered not one but two golden chances to beat Toulouse.

First, he missed a kick from in front of the sticks to win the game, three minutes from time.

Then he was so sure he had made amends by getting over the try line, he blew a kiss rather than just touch the ball down.

His hesitation proved disastrous, allowing Maxine Medard to run up behind him and knock the ball from his grasp.

“You just can’t do that at any level,” said Bath boss Todd Blackadder.

Captain Rhys Priestland added: “It’s something we need to speak about as a squad – celebrating before we score tries. For me, that is not negotiable. We can’t do that again.”

“Love this sport for the highs and lows,” tweeted Burns. “Today was an ultimate low.” BATH - Tries: Roberts, Burns. Cons: Burns 2. Pens: Burns 2. TOULOUSE - Tries: Medard, Guitone 2. Cons: Ramos 2. Pen: Ramos.
