A PRANKSTER who shone a laser beam at an RAF helicopter was being hunted last night after endangering the lives of the crew.

The navigator and pilot of the Puma chopper had to take evasive action to avoid being blinded. The helicopter was flying over Wantage, Oxfordshire, at 11.35pm last Thursday when the laser hit it.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “This put the safety of the crew in danger and avoidance action had to be taken. We are appealing for witnesses.”

Shining lasers at aircraft now carries a maximum five-year jail sentence.
