Rope rescue for man who clung to cliff
A MAN was rescued after clinging to the edge of a 70ft cliff by his fingertips.
Coastguard rescuers pulled him up with a rope after being alerted by someone who heard his shouts and called 999.
He had stumbled and fallen 10ft down the sheer cliff in Challaborough, South Devon.
Rescuers said the man, a worker from a holiday park, had lost his voice after calling for so long.
Coastguard officer Jon Kendray said: “This was undoubtedly a moment when a life was saved.
“The man was hoarse after shouting for help for so long. He wasn’t hurt but was not able to speak.
“This shows how dangerous cliffs can be and how important it is to be careful to keep well back.”
