Bortles in end zone of career
BLAKE BORTLES is a man under pressure at Wembley this afternoon, where one more poor performance will likely cost him his job.
Following a first month of the season that suggested Jacksonville could be a Super Bowl contender, the Jaguars quarterback has been in disastrous form, leading to him being benched last week during a third consecutive defeat.
A transatlantic flight for a meeting with reigning champions Philadelphia Eagles would not have been on Bortles’ wish-list this week but he is determined to face the challenge, and his destiny, head on.
He said: “There’s been pressure it seems like since I got to Jacksonville, so it’s kind of normal.
“I think there’s pressure at every position at all times in the NFL.
“If you’re not getting the job done or playing well or being successful, they’ll eventually replace you and find somebody else that can.
“I think I’ve always had an ability to ignore it – the outside noise or the pressure or whatever you want to call it – and just focus on playing football.” Philadelphia @ Jacksonville Sky Sports Action, 12.30pm. BBC2, 1pm
