Getting under Zac’s skin

-

I feel sorry for my son Zac. His mother runs a skincare business so it means he can’t escape that rite of passage into teenage life of not washing for a week and getting away with it.

The poor lad gets a proper sniffing from me – underarms, hair, behind the ears.

But this week I had a strangely proud moment when he came to me asking why he had “black dots” on his nose.

He was talking about blackheads, which is a common complaint for teenagers when the skin’s natural oil goes into overdrive because of hormones and gets trapped in pores. It’s the skin’s way of screaming: “I need a bit of exfoliation, please!”

So, exfoliate we did – I gave him a face cloth and showed him how to look after his skin.

The only thing was, this was all done LIVE on my social media for other mums and teenagers to see.

Zac was a great sport and was happy to be my model because he wanted to help other kids.

And it’s important that your children can talk to you about their skin and spots because it can be a really upsetting issue.

No one should feel ashamed about the skin they are in.
