A spokesman for the La Paz County Sheriff’s Department said: “Mr Gonzalez, who is a senior citizen, had returned home from market with his wife Conchita when they heard what they described as a bleating.

“When Mr Gonzalez went to investigate, he found the accused engaged in a fornicatory activity with his goat. It is a male goat.

“Mr Gonzalez went to fetch his shotgun but, being 84, took some time.

“When he returned to the scene, the violator had fled and was getting into his truck.

“But Mr Gonzalez ha s good peasant eyes and managed to get the licence number and forwarded it to police authorities.

“We stopped the accused and arrested him on suspicion of bestiality.

“To be honest – and don’t quote me on this – I’d slap another 10 years on his sentence for it being an act of homosexualism, as well as bestiality.

“But of course you can’t say such things these days.”

Lajpop- Mateo will appear in court on Monday to answer to the charges.

It’s not known how he lost his leg.
