Cleese wrong to mimic Hitler

Sunday Sport - - NEWS -

FORMER funnyman John Cleese did an impression of a top NAZI, just yards from a half- JEWISH colleague, we can reveal.

Cleese openly mimicked Adolf Hitler by holding a FINGER under his NOSE and performed the infamous Nazi “goose step” march ( above) in an episode of BBC sitcom Fawlty Towers called The Germans.

The episode features a put- upon Spanish waiter called Manuel, played by the late actor Andrew Sachs ( below). Germanborn Sachs and his family fled the Nazis in 1938.

Last night a Cleese fan said: “I cannot believe that Cleese would be so insensitive to mock all those who suffered and died as the result of Nazi crimes.”

The case echoes that of Bake Off star Paul Hollywood who was forced to apologise after dressing up as a character from the Eighties BBC sitcom ‘ Allo, ‘ Allo.
