A WOMAN was sentenced to 100 lashes by a Muslim court after a man asked her the TIME in the street.

The 30- year- old woman was rushed to hospital after collapsing from injuries sustained in the beating in Indonesia’s Banda Aceh province.

Earlier a sharia court heard the woman had been asked the time by a man in the street.

Rather than turning and scurrying away, the woman had told the man what the time was.

She was reported to religious police, who later charged her with consorting with “a man not her husband”.

According to sharia law, which rules over the region, she was guilty of adultery for being in the presence of a man who she was not married to.

Last night a diplomatic source said: “One word: savages.”
