A farthing a shag and tuppence for ANAL
New book delves into the world of the Victorian brothel
SOME things change, some stay the same...
And it seems prostitutes are very much in the second group, flaunting their lady wares throughout the ages.
Feast your eyes on the sex sellers of 1892, captured by snappa William Goldman and now freshly revealed in a posh but racy book, Working Girls.
It’s described as “unique and artful private photographs... capturing the deep appreciation and understanding of the group of women who lived and worked at a brothel in Reading, Pennsylvania, circa 1892”.
Author Robert Flynn Johnson took a decade to unearth more than two hundred vintage photographs of the women.
Inside the brothel, they pose artistically for the camera, and also show their off- duty routines like reading, smoking and bathing – in between offering the full range of sex acts at 19th Century prices. The snaps sit alongside high falutin’ essays from feminist scholars.
Modern- day burlesque star and foreword writer Dita Von Teese said: “This fascinating collection shows... there is beauty in even the most mundane moments.”
