WIFE DROVE DRUNK FLEEING SWINGERS’ CLUB
A DRIVER who got behind the wheel while more than twice the drink- drive limit claimed she was trying to go home after realising her boyfriend had driven them to a SWINGERS’ club.
A lawyer for Soraya Bashir, 37, said her client “didn’t think about what she was doing” after her partner pulled up outside the club in Batley, West Yorks.
Prosecutor Alex Bozman said Bashir caught the attention of a witness near Birstall around 2.30am on September 15.
He said: “The witness thought she seemed hesitant in her Honda Jazz and she drifted out of the nearside lane into the offside lane.
“Concerned that she may have been in drink the witness dialled 999.”
Bashir “... nearly collided with a taxi and then pulled up. When police arrived at her vehicle she was asleep.”
Officers arrested her and further police station breath tests showed she was more than twice the legal limit.
Bashir, of Goole, East Yorks, pleaded guilty to driving and driving whilst disqualified.
Zafar Iqbal, mitigating, said: “She was ( initially) driven by her boyfriend. They were going to a club but then she realised it was a swingers’ club.
“She’d already had a few drinks and didn’t think about what she was doing.”
Bashir narrowly avoided jail after Kirklees JPs heard she had been banned for drink- driving just three months earlier.
Magistrates sentenced her to 12 weeks’ jail, suspended for one year. BANNED: Bashir
