Victorious Seaton set sights on safety

SEATON Carew took a giant step to safety when they defeated bottom club Norton by eight wickets in the NYSD Premier League.

With both Hartlepool and Guisboroug­h battling it out below them, this win amounts to a very valuable 20 points.

Norton chose to bat first, making 134 all out, mainly thanks to opener Adam Fenby scoring 49. On the bowling front, Usman Arshad took 4-23 and Danny Thomas 3-13. In reply, Arshad with the bat made 38 and a third-wicket stand of 48 between David Seymour (44no) and skipper Paul Braithwait­e (34no) saw their team home for victory.

In the NEPL, Whitburn are still in relegation trouble, following their loss at home to Stockton, who are now pretty much safe.

The home side batted first and made 115 all out, due to George Harding taking 3-18 and Joel Thwaites 3-6, with opener James Thompson scoring 37.

Stockton knocked off the runs, but they lost six wickets on the way, with Thompson claiming 5-45 with the ball.

Ryan Wallace, with a careful 20 not out, steered his team home, after openers Tom Hewison (24) and Chris Hooker (20), had given them a solid start.

Ponteland lost again, this time at home to Lanchester in the NTSL.

They took first knock and totalled 136-5, with Paul Lindsay scoring 50 and Hassan Raza 60, with Callum Barnes the pick of the bowling, taking 3-37.

Lanchester didn’t mess about, taking just 23.3 overs to make the runs, with openers Graham Brinton scoring 49 and Mark Small 67 not out, sharing a 102-run partnershi­p, to ease their side home for the win, totalling 140-2.

In the Northumber­land Cricket League, Blyth keep marching on after another win, this time at home to Cramlingto­n, denting their survival hopes in the process.

Blyth scored 173-9. With Will Asher making 41 and Gary Cotterill 38 and Gary Quinn 35. Blyth then bowled out the visitors for 102, despite Jonathan Marshall scoring 33.

Dawdon gave their Durham Cricket League survival hopes a boost, with a much-needed home win over fellow strugglers Horden.

Dawdon batted first and scored 143, mainly thanks to A Anderson who made 36, with Will Iceton returning 4-60 and Scott Birks 3-28. Horden could only manage 93 all out in reply, with Liam Cowell taking an excellent 4-30, with only Lal Kumar resisting with 35.
