DUNSTON UTS 2 CONSETT 0

-

Michael Richardson goas close for South Shields in their victory over Trafford in the Evo-Stik First Division North Shaun Ryder was shown a red card for a stamp on Michael Pearson.

There was to be another spot-kick for the hosts as they took control of the game against a tiring Consett side.

This time, Burrell made no mistake, sending Coombe the wrong way with his powerfully struck penalty.

Despite a two-goal lead, there were still nervy moments for the hosts, as the ever-dangerous strike pairing of Michael Sweet and Michael Mackay went close in the last 10 minutes. But there was to be no consolation goal for the visitors.

With the last kick of the game, Dunston skipper Burrell was denied by the width of the post as he almost secured his second goal and his side’s third of the day.

And when the full-time whistle blew, there was a sense of satisfaction and a job well done for Dunston, something echoed by their manager.

Swailes said: “We were very good and we were delighted to keep a clean sheet.

“We have played well in all three games, we shouldn’t have been beaten by Shildon.

“But we were good today and I am pleased, we were solid.

“The sending off gave us the impe- tus, they had chances late on and it could have been tight.

“Our attention turns to Tuesday night against Washington, but there is no doubt that today was a good day for us and an awesome relief”
