End of the road for bike team

FA­MOUS mo­tor­cy­cle dis­play team the White Hel­mets have com­pleted their fi­nal pub­lic per­for­mance af­ter 90 years of dare­devil stunts and ac­ro­bat­ics.

The Royal Sig­nals Mo­tor­cy­cle Dis­play Team, on their clas­sic Tri­umph bikes, took part in their fi­nal dis­play at the Pre­ston Mil­i­tary Show yes­ter­day.

The squad per­formed two dis­plays at Ful­wood Bar­racks be­fore a fi­nal salute to deputy com­man­der for HQ North West Colonel Philip Har­ri­son.

Col Har­ri­son said: “This is the fi­nal time ever that we will have the op­por­tu­nity to ex­pe­ri­ence the breath­tak­ing skills of the White Hel­mets mo­tor­cy­cle dis­play team.

“Formed orig­i­nally from Royal Sig­nals dis­patch rid­ers, they have en­ter­tained mil­lions of peo­ple over nine decades and done won­ders for the Army’s re­cruit­ing.”

The fi­nal dis­plays saw rid­ers drive through a ring of fire and show off a range of stunts in­clud­ing rid­ing the bikes back­wards.
