Shields stun Quak­ers

SOUTH Shields pulled off one of the sur­prises of the FA Cup sec­ond qual­i­fy­ing round by beat­ing Dar­ling­ton from two leagues above them at Black­well Mead­ows.

Shields had less pos­ses­sion than Quak­ers, but they were more ruth­less in front of goal.

They took a grip on the game af­ter six min­utes, when Rob­bie Briggs floated a free-kick from the left into the Dar­ling­ton penalty area, where it was flicked on by Jon Shaw for Dil­lon Morse to knock home at the far post.

Q u a k e r s had a cou­ple of ef­forts from the edge of the box af­ter that, with Josh Gil­lies fir­ing wide from 25 yards, and James Caton drag­ging a shot wide. The Mariners stunned Quak­ers by go­ing 2-0 up on 27 min­utes.
