Rafa: I’m taking in one game at a time

Sunday Sun - - Football -

RAFA Benitez says he won’t look at the Premier League table – despite leading Newcastle United to fourth place.

The Toon manager, above, insists his team must keep their feet firmly on the ground and continue to take it one game at a time.

Speaking after the 2-1 win over Stoke, Benitez said: “The fans, when you win so many games in a row, they are excited and thinking about Europe – for me it is one game at a time. It is a very competitive league and we are learning from that.

“I haven’t seen the table and I don’t want to see the table, believe me. I said one game at a time and now it’s just to be sure that the fans enjoy it.

“They can enjoy it, we have to enjoy it, but we have to be sure that the next training session, we start correcting things and improving things –that’s our responsibility.”

Benitez enjoyed his first game back since recovering from a hernia operation but he limited his forays into the technical area.

He said: “Normally I am a little bit more agitated, but today I have to be careful – it will take some time to heal.”
