Heed rocked late again GATESHEAD 1 BOREHAM WOOD 1

-

Wes York gives Gateshead the lead on the half hour against Boreham Wood in the National League rebound. There was much more incident in the second half, and it was centred mainly on the Boreham Wood goal.

Barrow shot over following a surging run and then David Stephens blocked Luke Hannant’s goalbound low drive.

Hannant’s reputation as an allaction midfielder was again enhanced, and his 25-yard drive tested Grant Smith in The Wood goal.

Birmingham City loanee Luke Maxwell headed narrowly wide from Paddy McLaughlin’s free-kick as the Heed pressed for a second.

Barrow’s driven low free-kick was held by Smith at his near post before Burrow wasted a golden opportunity to put the game to bed.

Picked out by McLaughlin’s 78th- minute inswinging corner, the unmarked former Stevenage man failed to hit the target with a diving header from seven yards.

Inevitably, it proved to be a costly miss after Tynesiders substitute Jordan Preston cut across field to fire just over from 20 yards.

Gateshead failed to deal with Andrade’s right-side flag-kick, the ball falling to Shakes, who drove home to pinch a point for the Hertfordshire visitors.
