Charges af­ter two van raids

A MAN has been charged in con­nec­tion with two raids at New­cas­tle phar­ma­cies on Friday morn­ing.

Dean Con­roy, 35, is ac­cused of crash­ing a van into the shop front of New­burn Phar­macy on New­burn Road to steal drugs and cash, be­fore an at­tempted theft at Farah Chemists on Arm­strong Road.

Con­roy, of Grange Road in New­burn, was due in court on Satur­day morn­ing, charged with two counts of bur­glary, at­tempted theft and driv­ing with­out a li­cence or in­surance.

The first in­ci­dent al­legedly oc­curred at 7.01am on Friday with the sec­ond in­ci­dent three hours later.

A po­lice spokes­woman added: “Dean Con­roy has been charged with two counts of bur­glary, at­tempted theft and driv­ing with­out a li­cence or in­surance.”
