30 mo­biles take in show raid

MORE than 30 mo­bile phones were stolen from con­cert-go­ers at the O2 Academy in New­cas­tle.

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the spate of thefts from peo­ple watch­ing the band Rise Against at the West­gate Road venue on Wed­nes­day night.

Of­fi­cers are now is­su­ing ad­vice to any­one at­tend­ing large events and urge them to make sure they can feel their prop­erty close to them at all times, either in zipped up com­part­ments or pock­ets.

This ad­vice in­cludes never leav­ing phones unat­tended on ta­bles, chairs or in coats or hand­bags left on the back of chairs.

In­spec­tor Steve Wykes said: “We are in­ves­ti­gat­ing these thefts and are ap­peal­ing for in­for­ma­tion which could help our in­quiries.

“We also want to re­mind peo­ple to keep their mo­biles and other valu­ables safe when they go out for the night.”
