Contract boost for Wing
BORO have rewarded Lewis Wing for his hard work by awarding him a contract extension until 2019.
The 22-year-old attacker was handed a dream late start to a professional football career when Boro snapped him up from Northern League side Shildon last summer.
Wing scored 37 goals for Shildon last season. He initially joined Boro on a one-year deal but has impressed both with Under-23 side and briefly in the first team.
He was called up initially for the Carabao Cuptie against Scunthorpe United at the Riverside, making his Boro’s Lewis Wing senior debut as a second half substitute.
Then Lewis started the Carabao Cuptie in the next round at Aston Villa.
Wing said: “I’m delighted to sign a contract extension. It’s been fantastic for me to be involved in the first team and with such a good bunch of lads.
“It’s been a great year for me so far. Now I’m focusing on continuing to improve.”
Garry Monk said: “We’re pleased to see Lewis sign a new contract.
“I’ve said from day one that I want there to be a pathway for young players. I’ve tried to do the same wherever I have been.
“The development of young players has been an important part of the fabric of this club and is important to us.”
