The new championship launched this year, and has arrived at the Darlington track for its penultimate two rounds before the season finale at Donington Park next month.
In what has been a dramatic inaugural season, BTCC driver Daniel Lloyd arrived at Croft leading the way on 396 points over Oliver Taylor on 318. And with two rounds this weekend, it’s all to play for.
Lloyd, who has split his time this year between TCR and BTCC duties has been the man to beat all year so far, taking seven wins in the previous rounds at the wheel of the West Coast Racing Volkswagen Golf.
Based in Huddersfield, Lloyd views Croft as one of h his local tracks and it was there where he clinched his first ever BTCC win just this year.
And now with the championship almost i in his hands, he certainly do doesn’t want to be caught slac slacking this weekend.
“Th “This is a huge weekend for our championship fight,” he said. “Croft has very special mem memories for me. We’ve had some great successes here over the years, and getting my first BTCC win here a few mon months ago makes it even more special.
“It “It’s also one of my local track tracks. Being a proud Yorkshire shireman, we always get great support here from friends, family, sponsors and the local fans. I’m really looking forward to it.
“The championship is by no means decided as yet. It’s going to be tough. I need to stay out of trouble and bag as many points as possible to keep our lead at the top of the standings safe.”
Also expected be in the mix for victory will be championship protagonist and secondplaced Ollie Taylor, while Derek Palmer, Lewis Kent and another ex-BTCC driver Stewart Lines can’t be counted out, while Swedish siblings Andreas and Jessica Backman are expected to go well.
On top of the TCR UK action, the BRSCC race programme will also see thrills and spills from the Avon Tyres National Formula Ford 1600 Championship, Miltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup, Speed Group F1000 Championship, Kerax Hyperdrive ST-XR Challenge, BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Supercup and the DDMC Northern Sports and Saloon Car Championship.
Today’s action will get under way at noon and adult admission is £18 on the gate.
Accompanied children aged 15 and under are admitted free s and there is free parking and paddock access.
